Absolutely incredible, unbelievable !! You couldn't have written the script as the Q.Club sponsored Larne & District Pool League took another gigantic twist in Week 24 of 26. Dean McDonagh's Saints had taken 27 out of the last 28 points up to last Thursday to move top of the pile with only three fixtures remaining. And supposedly having all their hard matches out of the way they seemed huge odds on favourites to clinch their first ever title. But Stuart Houston's Gers definitely hadn't read the same script as they travelled down to the Station Bar venue and turned Saints over winning 9-7 after a nailbiting play off frame, won by Houston himself. Meanwhile reigning Champions Thatch Bar trailed 5-7 at home to lowly Station Bar after Frame twelve and any lingering hopes of retaining the crown seemed over. But up stepped the old stalwart Bill McIlroy Sr to win two out of the last three frames followed by the Play Off frame, that along with an Eddie Gribben hat trick put the pressure right back on the Saints, young Conor Matthews had registered a fine treble for the Railway men. As it stands now if Thatch win their final two fixtures they will retain the title. Long time leaders Feathers won convincingly 11-4 in their derby match against Freewheelers to move to back to within a point off the top but Q.Pool's outside chance is an even longer shot now after they let a 5-2 home lead slip against St Comgalls who had Rab Wilson to thank for rescueing a point in an 8-8 draw. Ibrox won 12-3 against No 1 Blues, Q.Club were 11-4 winners over basement team Clonlee and last but not least Cup Runners Up Rubys Stars consolidated eighth position in the table after winning 10-5 at home to Thatch Rockets.
Surely there couldn't be yet another twist, could there ?
