Larne B1s are NIPA Champions

Around 40 players and officials travelled up to represent the Larne League at the 2016 NIPA Interleague events which were held in the Nortel Club on the last weekend in February. And though it was mixed fortunes, what a performance by our B1s as they excelled all day to take the title at the annual event. In the photo celebrating are the proud winners - Bill McIlroy (Manager), Dessie Cooper, Paul McAlister, Sean Davison, Lee Topping, Anthony McCorry, William Irvine, Stuart Houston, Gary Johnston. Stephen Burns, Lee Hogg, Ciaran O'Toole, Aaron Wright and Davy Magill with a representitive of the Nortel staff.

Saturday - B1 Team - Captained by Bill McIlroy Sr, the B1 Team were outstanding as they retained the Shield they won last year on home territory in the St Comgalls Club. The team topped their group winning all three matches including against a very strong Carrick B1 side. Fate drew Larne against Carrick B1s in the Semi Final and once again we came out on top by the same 12-8 scoreline as in the group. Waiting in the Final were Carrick B2s led by Tristan Scott-Heyes but Larne turned up the heat and strolled to a memorable 17-9 victory. Can the lads make it a hat trick next season, lets hope so.

Saturday - B2 Team - Our B2 Team led by Neil McFaul didn't let themselves down either finishing Runners Up in their group with two wins from three. Unfortunately they ran into a rampant Carrick B1s in the Group Play Off losing out by 6-3.

Sunday - A Team - After the giddy heights of last season, going in as Champions was always going to be tough for Jean McIlroys 'A' side especially as Larne were drawn in the "group of death" with East Down and hosts Carrick. A solid start seen us win by 17-13 against the County Down men but our competition ended with an 11-17 reverse against Carrick. Carrick went on to reach the Final losing out agonisingly 16-17 to Coleraine
