The Thatch are just 2 wins away from becoming Larne & District Pool League Champions for 2011/2012. With 3 matches remaining Bryan McWhirter's team are in pole position after last nights big derby match between Gers and Gatherups ended in a pulsating 8-8 draw. Gatherups raced into a 4-0 lead but the Gers amazingly took the next 7 on the trot to lead 7-4. Back came the away side to level at 7-7 and they looked well positioned to take an 8-7 lead. But an incredible finish from Aaron Wright put the Gers ahead and the match headed into a play off frame. It was Gatherup Billy Moore who took out a faultless 8 ball finish to give both sides a point, a result which was of no good for either team. The Thatch players amongst the large crowd watching the final frame were quietly delighted. After their recent dip in form they are now big favourites to win the title for the first time in their history.
