Saints win the Cup in a thriller

It's well done to Saints Pool Team. After a horrendous second half to the season the St Comgall's Club team ended the season with silverware in the form of the Larne & District Pool League Knock Out Cup. In a thrilling finale to the season Ibrox once again ended up as bridesmaids after having also lost the League title on the last week of the season to Thatch. To the final, and Richard Todd's Ibrox lads raced into a 2-0 lead courtesy of a splendid clearance from Ellis Martin and a win from Stephen Johnston. But back came Saints to lead 3-2 at the end of the first session with wins from Paul McAlister, Bill McIlroy Jr and Ryan Foster. Four on the trot from Stephen Johnston, Ed McDowell, Michael Wilson and Ellis Martin put Ibrox in a commanding 6-3 position until two fantastic clearances by Ryan Foster brought the Saints to within one frame of their opponents. In Frame 12 Bill McIlroy Jr was unlucky in potting a back cross double on the black only for the white to disappear too. Ibrox were on the hill now at 7-5 and feeling confident but Shaun McAlister couldn't have picked a better time for a break and dish and his brother Paul soon levelled the match at 7-7 to take us into a deciding frame. The break favoured the Saints and Captain Dean McDonagh kept a vice like grip on proceedings until he potted the 15th black off the match to give his team the title of 2016 Knock Out Cup winners. Well done to all, great match indeed.
